I know her ability to bring joy and make someone feel welcome in her world was freely given to many, but I wanted to honor that she did that for me. Large gifts come in little packages. She was all that and more.

Mom, you were the best mother anyone would ever want. Your positive, fresh, friendly optimistic outlook on life was such a joy. Everyone who ate one of your home cooked meals knew you were as good a cook as exists in the world. You were so well-rounded and had so many interests (jazz, baseball, painting, etc.) that there never was a dull moment.

I thank you so much for everything you ever taught me, from coaching me how to treat a female when I was barely walking (" always open the door for her but never cross in front of her to open the door", "always walk on the outside of the sidewalk to protect her from splashes or dust from cars driving by", etc.) to teaching me to treat others how I wanted to be treated,

to knowing the differences between right and wrong (and acting upon that knowledge) and how to communicate (don't say "we don't take checks", say "we gladly accept cash"),

the proper size of h'orderves is 2 bites - not more, not less,

do not overuse any ingredient while cooking, you don't want people to say "gee, you sure used a lot of garlic", instead you want them to say "wow, what is in here that makes this taste so good"

and so much more.

I knew I had a special mother from day 1 and am so thankful for that.

I love you very much, Cary.
