Grandpa Howlett’s Obituary
Grandpa Howlett didn’t show affections through hugging or saying “I love you.” Instead, he showed it through talking to me about cars, reading the Auto Trader, introducing me to crossword puzzles, a note telling me how he was watching a show about otters at an aquarium and how it reminded him of me. It was his patience communicating with me, with just a pen and a paper. Sure, his affections were unorthodox, but it spoke volumes, even to this day. He never made me feel unloved or different because of my deafness, he tried to tell me what he was tinkering with in the backyard, what teams were playing against the 49ers, what flowers he had planted or was growing in the yard, showing me the world on a map, and sharing his love for nature with me. I still felt his love, and the ways he has shown it to me in those little moments. Now, it is cherished and held closer to my heart, along with Grandma Howlett.
I love you very much grandpa. Love, always, Amanda.
