Bill was the man with the Cheshire cat grin and a twinkle in his eyes. He was always the comedian, loved being silly and foolish, and enjoyed trying to embarrass his loved ones. At the same time, Bill could be very stubborn which gave him the ability to persevere and figure out anything.
Born and raised in Glen Ellen, California, Bill spent his entire life living in Glen Ellen/Sonoma where he raised three children. Bill grew up working at Gemini’s, the family music and appliance store in Glen Ellen. He worked there for most of his career. For the last 14 years, this evolved into being the handyman/consultant/jack of all trades for the family property business. He could repair pretty much anything. He was the “go to” guy for the whole neighborhood and he truly loved helping his family, friends and neighbors.
He had many different hobbies throughout his life including a lifelong love of cars, being a talented musician, waterskiing, snow skiing…especially backwards, flying, boating, auto crossing in his little race car and his most loved activity West Coast Swing dancing. He taught many people, young and old, the basics of connection in West Coast Swing. Being a perfectionist, Bill mastered everything he did. He loved teaching and helping others but continued his own love of learning throughout his life. He had a passion for helping kids learn and gain self-confidence. His business card read “Dancing, Racing, Learning, Invest in Yourself.”
One of his favorite things to do was talk to people. He loved to spark a conversation and follow it in any direction it went. Strangers would sometimes be drawn into very interesting and unexpected discussions while he happened to be waiting for his partner in the dressing room. He was an eloquent conversationalist with a sharp wit and keen intelligence who enjoyed talking to everyone. He could navigate conversations with lawyers or magically calm a screaming two-year old.
Bill was very unpretentious and was most comfortable in his daily uniform of 501 button fly jeans and a tee shirt; his SUPERMAN outfit!
He is survived by his children Susan, Dan and Chris; granddaughters Chanel, Corina and Cara; siblings Linda, Emily, Nadine, Melodee and Leon; partner Chris and her kids Angelo and Kahtarina.
Bill touched so many people and he will truly be missed. He loved his family and friends and we all loved him. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice by the Bay - Sonoma 355 West Napa Street, Suite B, Sonoma CA 95476
