Steven Warren Carney

Steven Warren Carney, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters on Sunday, August 2, 2026, after a two week stay in Crouse Irving Medical Hospital in Syracuse, NY that marked the end of his courageous and nonstop, twenty-year battle with Prostate Cancer. Born in Oneida, NY on June 26, 1948, he is predeceased by his father and mother, Edward A and Cherry L Bodley Carney Jr. and his brother, Mark E Carney. He was a graduate of Oneida High School Class of 1966 where he was a resident and considered a local musical legend by many. In 1974 he moved to California where he lived for twenty plus years before returning to NY in 1997. Steve was a brilliant, self-taught, humble man with the faith and courage of a warrior. Consistently perplexing and surprising doctors with his constant healing abilities and his many medical miracles, we called him Superman. While living in CA, he owned and operated Steve’s TV & Stereo, prior to his retirement, he was employed by Anaren and Philips. Steve was musical from birth and was a member of many bands, including The Imperials, Magic, Dynamics, Tucker Brothers, Classic Grove, Stage Fright, The Wingnuts, Honey Bush, In Too Deep and Loose Enz. He is survived by his fiancé, Jean Dermody Page; his children, Thomas (Cindy) Carney of CA, Christine Carney, Lisa Overton, Staci Carney and Michelle (Kevin) Belden; thirteen grandchildren, Colie, Andre, Khalil, Isiah, Jonah, Aliyah, Kimorah, Aniyah, Holly, Emmalynn, Kylie “Ryan”, Jackson and Lucas; One great-granddaughter, Bailee; former spouse, Linda Carney; one Aunt, Alice Cote; two sisters, JoAnne Carney Vinette and Elaine Carney Brown of CA; Jean’s two children, Meghan Roth and Kieran Page; grandson, Luke Page, brother and sister-in-law, Tom (Joanne) Dermody and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 11AM at Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, 300 S Peterboro St., Canastota, NY.
