Robert Allan Severance died peacefully in his sleep on November 9, 2021 at his longtime home at the end of Siesta Way, fondly referred to as “the Ranch.” Born on December 14, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA, he is the only child of Byron and Blanche Severance. The family moved to Sonoma from North Hollywood in the early 1940’s.
“Bob” attended Sonoma Valley High School and was drafted into the Army just before graduation. He served during WWII for eighteen months. Upon returning from Germany, he studied briefly at California Polytechnic Institute and then settled back at home to assist the family business raising turkeys. He later pursued stonework and carpentry, building homes and masonry features throughout the county.
An avid fisherman since his early childhood, that pastime remained a lifelong top priority. Summers were happiest spent at the cabin he built on Little Grass Valley reservoir near La Porte, CA. He maintained this favorite retreat to the delight of family and many friends over a forty-five year period.
Mr. Severance is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Philomen Severance, and leaves behind their beloved son Michael Allan Severance. A son from an early relationship, Randy Allan Severance of San Francisco also survives.
In accordance to his wishes, there is no service, yet the family welcomes Bob being remembered by the many to whom he was a dear, loyal friend and gentle, quiet helpmate throughout his many decades in the Valley. A life well lived.
