Phyllis Meyers Obituary

Phyllis Meyers died at home in Sonoma California as the full moon was rising on September 20, 2021 at the age of 93.  Born (February 18,1928) and raised in Brockton, MA.  She held residences in WoodsHole, MA, Baltimore, MD, Alexandria, VA, then moved to Northern California with her Husband, Richard, in 2009 to be near Family.

In 1952, she and Richard wed at home in Brockton, MA and they celebrated their 68th anniversary June 2020.  Richard passed away just eight months ago.  Phyllis is survived by sister Arlene Kaufman and daughters Suzanne Louise (Cornell) and Lauren Ruth (Meg).  Phyllis and Richard are predeceased by son William “Billy” Harris.

The devotion of a Mother’s love is the greatest gift that life can offer, and Phyllis gave her love fully and unconditionally. Before Billy died so suddenly at the age of 33, Mom was joyous, easy going and devoted to the many neighborhood kids of Brockton and WoodsHole.  Mom thrived through her 30’s and 40’s, when the kids were young and her four favorite girlfriends were dropping by and calling daily.

In sad contrast, the grief-stricken Mom in her 60’s was inconsolable.  If time can heal all wounds there could never be enough time for Mom’s heart to heal from losing her son. The resilience needed to break through the dark clouds of loss was simply not available.

Her Family and many friends accepted her fully and loved her so very, very much.

May she now rest in peace knowing that she and Richard will again be re-united with Billy in WoodsHole, MA.  A virtual memorial service will take place soon followed by a graveside service this Fall.  As a monthly supporter to Congregation Shir Shalom in Sonoma (http://www.shir-shalom.org), CA Phyllis encourages donations be made on her behalf.
