Nicholas “Nick” Versis, beloved friend and proud patriarch, passed away peacefully on
February 21, 2024 at the age of 84 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Athens, Greece, on September 4, 1939, Nick was the son of Athanasia and
George Versis. He shared his upbringing with two sisters and two brothers and lived in
Athens until his early 20’s.
In the Fall of 1963, Nick’s life changed when he met his loving wife, Judy Powers Versis.
Nick and Judy spent a few years living in Greece and starting their family before moving
to California to lay down roots. Following in his parent’s footsteps, Nick made a career
in upholstery where his craftmanship and and attention to detail earned him a loyal
client base over the years.
Nick had a green thumb and delighted in tending to his garden, nurturing olive,
pomegranate, fig, and other trees with care and devotion. He could often be found
cheering on his favorite Greek soccer teams. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting,
but as time passed, he found solace in spending his time at the fruit basket with his
beloved friend, Marco.
Nick is survived by his devoted wife, Judy, and his children, George Versis, Diane
Rocha (Ronnie Rocha), and Debra Halby (Brett Halby). He will be remembered fondly
as “Papou” by his grandchildren, Alicia (Spenser), Savannah, Lindsey, Athanasia,
Marika, Nikolas, and his great-grandson, Emmett.
Nick's memory will be honored by those who knew him for his strength of character and
his memory will be forever cherished by his adoring family and friends.
