Maurine Solomonson Obituary

The light and love of my life, Maurine Whisenand Solomonson (better known during her teaching career in Sonoma Valley as Ms. Whiz) passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on December 26, 2024 after a long battle with memory issues. Her husband and son were with her as she became a bright, shining star way up high just as she was here on earth.

I am so thankful for her and our life together, the most amazing life ever!!! She loved teaching the children throughout her career, enjoyed our travels, scuba diving, music, and of course so many friends near and far to enjoy some wine, socializing and of course – cookies and ice cream! She cared greatly for all creatures, the earth, ocean, plants, people, and she was pure love and joy teaching her passion to her many Kindergarten children who she loved so much.

It was a long battle for us, but Maurine never complained and always was just sweet and smiling. Being her caregiver through all this just made me love her more and reflect on how truly blessed our life together was and will always be as she is my heart and soul forever and ever.

Maurine is survived by her loving husband “Chief “ Mark J Solomonson of 26 years, (our 26th anniversary was December 26th), her son Brendan (Desiree) O'Donovan of Napa, sister Gretchen Whisenand of Santa Rosa, brother James M. Whisenand and his children Jim, Jessica and grandnephew Nolan of Champaign, Illinois.

Sister-in-law Cindy (Rhonda) Solomonson of Grand Junction, Co.

Maurine was preceded in Death by her parents James M. and Juanita K. Whisenand.

Celebrate her life by making a donation to your favorite charity - help the children, the ocean and sea creatures, and our giant redwoods we loved so much when we escaped to Fort Bragg for some years to relax and be nearer the ocean.

Know that she loved you all and as tough as this is for all of us who knew and loved Maurine, she is free to be the brilliant, shining, loving light that she always was here on earth.

Our Love will Not Fade Away. Every moment counts, every second passes too quickly.

Remember to Be Nice!

(which was her #1 rule in Kindergarten for the kids and for everyone else too!)

A celebration of Maurine's life is being planned for this coming spring.
