August 20, 1923 ~ November 30, 2020 (age 97)

Obituary

Maryjane Walsh passed away peacefully at the Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa on November 30, 2020 following a stroke at her home in Sonoma on Friday November 27th.   She was 97 years old.

A third-generation Californian, Maryjane was the only child of Harold and Naomi Lannon of San Francisco, CA. She graduated from Lowell High School (1941) and attended Cogswell College. She met her husband, Jim, at St. Agnes Church. Their first date was on New Year’s Eve, 1946. Maryjane and Jim were married at St. Agnes Catholic Church on April 17, 1948 and were happily married for 67 years before Jim’s death in November 2015.

They lived in San Francisco the first two years of their married life and bought their first house in Westlake, Daly City in 1951. This became the home where they raised their family.  Maryjane was a devoted wife and a loving mother. Her husband and four sons were the most important thing in her life. Maryjane was a founding member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Daly City and attended Church there regularly from 1951 to 1989.

After Maryjane’s husband Jim retired from P.G.&E in 1987, they bought their “Summer” home in Sonoma, CA.  In 1989, they sold their home in Westlake and moved to their Sonoma home permanently.

Maryjane spent a lot of her time and energy working with a number of Catholic organizations. She was Past President of the Jesuit Mothers, and of the St. Ignatius Guild. She was a member of the Hibernian Westlake Catholic Women’s Club, the Loyola Guild, St. Leo’s Ladies Guild and St. Vincent de Paul in Sonoma.

Maryjane was a very social person, loved her family and her friends.  If there was a reason to celebrate, there was a party at their home.  After her family, her favorite past-times were reading and shopping.

Both Jim & Maryjane loved to travel and visited many locations on vacation. Some of their favorite trips were to New York, New Orleans, Hawaii, Yellowstone & Yosemite National Parks. They visited Europe and went to Ireland, Italy, France and Germany.  They took cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. Their favorite vacation spot was their annual trip to So. Lake Tahoe.

Maryjane is survived by three of her four sons; Jim (Diane), Paul (Barbara) and Greg (Mary); six grandchildren; Meghann, Jenni, Julie, Alorah, David and Katie, six great grandchildren, Gianna, Whitney, Litzzi, Layla, Porter and Ryelyn.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim and recently her son, Fr. Robert Walsh S.J.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to Hired Hands who, since 2013, took great care of both Maryjane and Jim.  A special thank you to Maribel for her extraordinary care.  She became a friend to the entire family.  We also appreciate the friendships that Maryjane had in her Sonoma Greens neighborhood, especially the court friends - Jim, Linda & Mary Beth.   She had many friends whose calls, letters and visits made her days brighter.

Once large gatherings are allowed again, the family will hold Maryjane’s funeral Mass at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Sonoma.  After Maryjane’s funeral, and reception, there will be private burial by the family and her ashes will be interred at The Veteran’s Cemetery in Sonoma with her beloved husband Jim.
