Maria Pilar Ruiz Vanscoit

On March 29, 2024 in Sonoma California, Maria Pilar Ruiz Vanscoit went to
heaven to be with her husband Rafael. Pilar was 94 years old.
Pilar was born in Mexico City on May 19, 1929. During her childhood, Pilar lived
in Tampico Mexico. She met and married the love of her life, Rafael, in
Brownsville Texas where her first two children were born. For the next 67 years,
they set roots in Chicago and raised their six children. In their twilight years, Pilar
and Rafael settled in Sonoma California, where they lived for the remainder of
their lives.
Pilar was blessed with a large family filled with music, laughter and love. Her
warmth will be missed dearly.
Wake services will be held at Duggans Mission Chapel in Sonoma on
Wednesday, April 10, from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Funeral mass will be celebrated
at St Leo’s Church in Sonoma on Thursday, April 11, at 10:00 AM, followed by a
procession to Cypress Hills cemetery in Petaluma.
Pilar was the beloved wife of 72 years to the late Rafael Ruiz. She was the
devoted mother of Rosemary, Ignacio (Carmen) Laura (Tim) McGovern,
Guillermo (Peggy), Rafa (Sue), MaryEllen (John). She was the proud
grandmother to Angela, Michael (Cathy), Luis, Chris, Christina (Neil), Megan
(Johnnie), Tim (Julianne), Christina (Nick), Jimmy, Paul (Aya), Olivia, Teo, and
Ryan; and blessed great grandmother to Alexis, Tony, Joe, Michael, Serena,
Josiah, Jasmine, Sophia, Jovanni, James, Lia, Sean Terry and Emmanuel. She
was the cherished sister of the late Alfredo, late Ernesto (Susana), late Christina
(Enrique) and Julio (late Eva) and daughter of the late (Guillermo) and late
Angela Vanscoit of Mexico city.  She was the fond aunt of many nieces and
