Linda Dowd loved her husband, all of God’s creatures especially her cats, reading British novels, and shopping. Always a woman of quality and perfection, she enjoyed making and remaking her home with an eye for both comfort and beauty. Born an only child in San Francisco, she spent nearly all of her years in the Bay area, and really loved her Trinity Episcopal Church community in Sonoma.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Tim Dowd, and her mother and father, Margerie Gannon and Peter Pat Hilsen. She enjoyed time with family especially at Thanksgiving and other holiday celebrations. Known affectionately as “Lala, ” she is survived by her cousin, Shannon Patricks and her son, Michael Patricks of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by her step daughter Arleen Dowd of Oxford, Mississippi. Her faithful priest, Father Jim Thomas and she worked closely on all matters at Trinity and became the best of friends as a result of that collaboration.
Her work life was seasoned with varied experiences. Favorite among them was her time as a secretary for the Teamsters 853 in Oakland from 1981-1993 and her hosting gig at the Swiss Hotel. Ever gracious and doting upon her customers, Linda was considered a treasure by her colleagues at the Swiss.
Linda and her husband loved many kitties through the years: Bogie, Louie and Maggie, Clancy and Rooney, and their surviving rescue, Atticus Finch. She never met a “stranger” animal as she always asked to pet creatures she might encounter while walking about the plaza. Linda and Tim traveled on cruises and by RV, always with their feline companions aboard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sonoma’s Pet Lifeline whose mission it is “to protect and improve the lives of cats and dogs in need in Sonoma Valley through sheltering, adoption, youth education, and community programs.” https://www.petslifeline.org/donate
