Kathleen Louise Valim

Kathleen Louise Valim was born in Sonoma on April 4, 1957 to Afonso “Al” Valim and Vivian (Medeiros) Valim. She passed away peacefully on September 13, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Kathleen graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1975 followed by Santa Rosa Junior College in 1978 where she received an AA degree.  She spent her entire life as a resident of Sonoma Valley.

She was a residential service worker and cook at Valley of the Moon Children’s Home in a career that spanned 31 years. At the children’s home is where she met her life partner, Margaret (Mary) Witter. They were able to spend a wonderful 32 years together with these last two years as retirees enjoying the time they were able to share. Part of that time together included the opportunity to travel to Israel with a group from St. Leo's. 

During her life she enjoyed travelling, including visits to Spain which she loved. She also loved camping, reading, enjoying films, and writing/telling stories. Part of the love of travel took her to many of her favorite Portuguese festas all over California with a particular family favorite being in the city of Cayucos. She was an artist that did wonderful work making crafts and floral designs entering them into the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. She was great at decorating and hosting family gatherings. She had a love of sharing her skills and making baskets for church to share. She was a woman of faith, love of family, and especially a love of her life partner, Mary and their dog Penny.  She was an avid SF Giants fan and she and Mary shared many games together.

Kathleen is fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews for her generosity, delicious meals, and a lifetime of collecting and sharing Hallmark christmas ornaments.

She is survived by her life partner Mary, her siblings, Annette Choate, Michael (Patti) Valim, Barbara Reid, Hank (Marcia) Witter, Steven (Mary Ann) Witter, Jane (Craig) Leveroni. nieces & nephews, Amy Garcia, Steven (Marina) Gonsalves, Erin (Shawn) Taylor, Jaime (Brent Fletcher) Valim, Jaclyn Gibbons, Nicole Gibbons,Joey Reid, Kevin Reid, Katie (Sam) Witt, Trey Garcia, Jaya Garcia, Logan Taylor, Anastacia Gonsalves, Kate Gonsalves, KK Fletcher, Alexxa Fletcher, Luke Fletcher, Vivian Fletcher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Al & Vivian Valim, brother in law Jim Reid, brother in law Ted Choate, sister in law Linda Witter, and brother in law John Witter.

Services will be as follows: Viewing Monday September 20, 2021 4:30pm- 6:30pm with Rosary to follow at 6:30 pm at Duggan’s Mission Chapel 525 West Napa Street in Sonoma.  Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday September 21,2021 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church at 11am in Sonoma.  Lunch and no host bar to be served at Sonoma Moose Lodge starting at 1pm following mass.

Donations may be made to Valley of the Moon Children’s Home foundation or the food pantry program at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Kathleen’s memory.
