Juanita Marie (Rivas) Colin, beloved mother and caring grandmother, passed away on July 21, 2023 at the age of 87.
Born on December 10, 1935 in San Francisco. She grew up in the Cotati/Petaluma area graduating from St. Vincent’s High School. Juanita and her family settled in the Dry Creek Valley and later moved to Cloverdale in the early 70’s. There she raised five children and become a devoted member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Juanita’s faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and providing her with strength during difficult times.
Juanita started a late career working for the local convalescent hospital, Manzanita Manor. She worked her way into a position of medical records. She retired 30+ yrs. later at the age of 72. Many friendships were developed and fostered during her career and working with the community caring for the elderly.
Juanita is survived by her children, Bruce (Jeri) Colin of Idaho, Doug (Loni) Colin of Sebastopol, Lynne (Ron) Black of Geyserville, Teresa Colin of Healdsburg, Gina (Zach) Hammer of Petaluma and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Of course, we can’t forget her cherished canine companion of 11 years, Amy, now residing in Idaho.
Juanita’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of unconditional love, faith, and devotion will continue to inspire and guide us. She is now forever resting in peace.
The family would like to acknowledge Sonoma Post Acute in Sonoma for the tremendous and loving care given to Mom during her 6 month stay. Their endless encouragement and hope for Mom will be cherished for many years. We would also like to thank Mom’s neighbors in Cloverdale, Margo & Maxine, for watching over Mom when we could not be with her. They didn’t just bring her dinners and desserts but had many hours of laughter watching movies and sports games. A true friendship.
Services will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Cloverdale on August 2nd. One decade of the Rosary will start at 11:00 immediately followed by the memorial mass at approx. 11:15. Attendees are welcome to a small reception in the church hall.
