Joseph Pokorski

Joseph Pokorski, 80, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, in Sonoma, California. He was born on May 19, 1946, in Miami, Florida.

Joe proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the 5th Marine Division Reconnaissance Company. His service was recognized with the Presidential Unit Citation and National Defense Service Medal, and he earned the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge.
His patriotism remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.

Joe was a proud father who deeply loved his daughters and took immense pride in the women they became and in all their accomplishments. He was always available as a listening ear and was intentional with his advice, offering thoughtful guidance. Papa Joe was also a loving grandfather, and his family was a great source of joy in his life.

Summer always brought fond memories for Joe, who looked forward to renting his annual beach house in Newport Beach, California, and filling it with friends and family. He loved fishing and watching sports on television. He was rarely without one of his beloved Hawaiian shirts, which became a signature part of his easygoing style and personality. He enjoyed relaxing at the local tavern where he was known as “Newport Joe,” where he shared laughter and stories with his buddies.

Joe had a lifelong passion for automobiles. Just months before his passing, he fulfilled a dream by purchasing a beautiful Mercedes-Benz that brought him great happiness. He especially enjoyed looking through the paper copy of the owner’s manual, taking the time to learn all about his new car. It was a simple pleasure that brought him genuine joy and was so perfectly Joe.

Before moving to Sonoma, Joe spent many years in Irvine, California, where he raised his daughters and was actively involved in their lives. He coached several softball and soccer teams, helping lead them to championship seasons. Those who knew Joe will remember him for his kindness, big heart, quick wit, generous spirit, and deep love for his country. He had an easy way of making people smile, always putting others before himself, and had a laid back attitude.

Joe is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Katie and Casey and Kendall and Nick; his grandchildren, Taylor and Blake; his siblings, Morgan, Pauline, Barbara, Matthew and Mark; and his former wife, Wendy, who remained a close friend and an important part of his life. He is predeceased by his sister, Loretta. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
