Joanne “JoJo” Orene Liberti, born August 17, 1938 in San Francisco to Floyd and Mary (Flaherty) Schafer passed away peacefully on January 10, 2021 at Sunrise Villa in Sonoma, California after a 10-year progression of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Joanne spent her childhood in the Outer Richmond District where she attended St. Monica’s Catholic School and Presentation High School. San Francisco remained her home into adulthood where she raised her three daughters, served as secretary to the President San Francisco Community College, and participated in a number of community activities. In the early 1980s, Joanne made Sonoma her full-time home. During her retirement years in Sonoma Joanne could be found caring for her grandchildren, volunteering for St. Francis Solano Church, and School or hanging out at Murphy’s.
Lovingly known by family, friends and just about anyone else as, JoJo, Joanne was a kind, compassionate, charitable woman who was always full of life. JoJo was an original 49er Faithful, loved to entertain and to travel, especially to Ireland. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and friends. If you ever left JoJo’s house hungry, it was your own fault.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Lori Carpenter, and granddaughter, Gina Leutza. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Christine) Schafer, daughters, Marianne Hollman and Deborah (Mark) Leutza, grandchildren Joshua (Alison) Hollman, Ryan (Erin) Carpenter, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Spear, great-grandchildren Vivian, Lily, Elizabeth, Annmarie, and Aaron, as well as nieces, nephews and numerous extended family as well as friends who she considered family.
A private funeral service will be held due to public health restrictions.
