Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Joanne “Jan” Roldan passed away peacefully in Sonoma on March 2, 2026. She was 96. Born Joanne Margaret Cumiskey in Omaha, Nebraska, she was the youngest child of Etta Mae (Carmichael) and Frank Cumiskey, a career military officer. She proudly considered herself an army brat. Her family moved many times, including to Hawaii, Minnesota and California. She attended Colton High School, where she discovered her love of performance and appeared in several plays. She continued her studies at Brigham Young University, where she acquired the nickname “Jan” and carried that name forward. Jan married after college and had two children, Craig Turner and Dianne Turner. She later settled in San Francisco and worked at Bank of America, where she met her future husband Frank Roldan. In 1965, Frank and Jan married at St. Anne of the Sunset in San Francisco and had three children: Kathleen, Frank and Kerry. Jan enjoyed raising her children in The City and became involved with St. Anne’s parish community. She later worked at Emporium department store downtown. In retirement, Jan and Frank made Sonoma their home and became active members in the community. Jan enjoyed volunteering at Sonoma Visitors’ Bureau, FISH (Friends in Sonoma Helping) and the Chorale. She kept her mind sharp with challenging crossword puzzles and on evenings out, she enjoyed a well-crafted Old Fashioned. Jan will be remembered for her energetic spirit, sense of humor and wonderful stories. She is survived by her husband Frank, daughters Dianne, Kathleen (Chris Jackson), Kerry (Hal Crain), and sons Frank and Craig. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her adored grandchildren (Cristina, Samantha, Amanda, Dusty, Russel, Kendall and Sienna), who all affectionately call her Nanny. Services will be held on Sunday, March 15th from 2PM to 4PM.
