Gary Robert Magnani

Heaven got a whole lot rowdier on the morning of Wednesday, April 1st when our proud Italian Nonno, Gary Magnani passed peacefully in his home in Sonoma, California. Gary was born on August 13th 1949 in Oakland, California, before moving with his family to Healdsburg, California where he attended elementary through high school, graduating Healdsburg High in1967. Gary enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 and during his service sailed all over the world. He welcomed his children in 1991 and 1996, while residing in Sonoma, California and while working as a diesel mechanic throughout Sonoma and Marin counties to support his family. His love of cars transcended work, as he collected and repaired more than thirty vehicles in his lifetime. Gary was a devoted sports enthusiast, closely following the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Raiders. In his later years he enjoyed exercise, playing golf, and slow days in Sonoma Valley. Gary will be remembered for the service he provided to the Native Sons Parlor 111 of Sonoma Valley, his service as the commander of the American Legion Jack London Post 489 from 2014-2024, his contributions to the erection and dedication of the memorial star statue at our local Veteran’s Cemetery, the support he provided to fellow veterans, and his role as a loving and devoted grandfather.
