Evelyn Marie (Storie) Holt

Evelyn Marie Holt passed away peacefully after a long illness on May 26, 2021, with her daughter and caregiver Linn at her side. She was 96 years old.
 
Born to Lloyd Storie and Laura (Gwinn) Storie, in Derby, Iowa, she was the first of two daughters. Growing up in Staples, MN, she was an Honor Graduate from Staples High School. At 15 years old, she was an usherette when “Gone with the Wind" played in her local theater.
 
In 1945 she married the love of her life, Raymond Holt and they made their home in San Francisco where they welcomed three children – Carol, David and Cathy. Together for 64 years their favorite song was “It Had to be You.”
 
After visiting for several years the family moved to Sonoma in 1954. She operated Rays Grocery for 18 years then worked as a Postal Clerk at Eldridge Post Office prior to becoming the Postmaster, a position she held proudly for 17 years.
 
Evelyn was a Charter Member of Women of the Moose Chapter 776, member of VFW Auxiliary, bowled with Senior Swingers, and was a past member of Vintage House.
 
She enjoyed traveling across the country in their trailer to visit family and friends. Evelyn could name all the Giants team members and enjoyed watching them. She also enjoyed hosting friends for football games. In later years she played a mean hand of poker with our three Mom's and Daughter's group every Thursday. Oh how her memory will be cherished, her presence will be dearly missed!
 
She is survived by her loving daughter Carol (Timothy) Short, Daughter-in-Law Cathie (Pat) Apple, adored Grandchildren, Stacie (Caleb) Watts, Robin Short, Benjamin (Christin) Holt, Devin (Shalyn) Davis, Matthew (Emily) Holt, Nathan Holt, Nicholas (Jen) Holt, Caleb and Jared Lugo and Chad and Tisha Woodard; 15 Great-Grandchildren and nieces Laura Apodaca, Joan Alford, nephew Wally (Stacey) Moser, Mike Moser and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, parents, sister Dorothy, daughter Cathy and son David.
 
Special thanks to her neighbors for their many years of caring support. Praise for her loving long time caregivers Carolina Moreno and Linn Howard.
 
We are honoring Evelyn's request for no services. Private family burial at Valley Cemetery, Sonoma.
