Edward Meehan Obituary

Edward Michael Meehan, born January 14, 1950, died May 8, 2024, in Sonoma, CA after a 14-month-long battle with a rare salivary gland cancer. Ed was born in Kansas City, KS to Edward Francis Meehan and Juanita Maxine Meehan. The family relocated to San  Francisco, CA in 1954 and moved to Sonoma, CA in 1956. Ed graduated from Sonoma Valley High School, class of 1968. He enlisted in the Navy after graduation and was very proud of his service, spending 7 months on the U.S.S. Hollister DD-788 during the Vietnam War. Following the Navy, Ed worked at Franklin Furniture on Broadway in Sonoma.

In 1983, Ed went to work for the Marin-Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District where he loved working in the field tending to mosquitoes, yellow jackets, and rats at businesses and residences throughout Sonoma and Marin Counties. He jokingly referred to himself as “a hired killer.” Ed retired from MSMVCD in 2008 after 35 years and spent his retirement years following his passions – blues musician Walter Trout, reading, gardening, cooking, golfing, collecting wine, and Thursday Costco runs with Steve at Town Square.

Ed was known as a kind and gentle soul, well-liked and loved by everyone. Although his last 8 months were rough and fraught with intolerable pain and discomfort, he lived them with dignity and rarely a complaint.

Predeceased by father Edward F. Meehan, mother Juanita M. Meehan, brother James W.    Meehan, and numerous aunts & uncles. Survived by wife of 30 years, Linda L. Meehan; grandchildren Aviana C. Bonnet, Elyas T. M. Bonnet, and Nikolaus Waidmann (Shannon); sisters Patricia A. Meehan and Pamela M. Meehan-Carr; nieces Amber Mazza (Jesse), Cierra Larson and nephew Heath Larson (Alexa) and their children; cousins Maureen Brady (Jim), Lynn Bobbitt (John), Marilyn Carlisle and their children.
