After a long and well-lived life, Donald R. Vaughn passed away on December 13th, 2021. Don was born in Long Beach, CA on April 2, 1942. He moved with his family to Sonoma Valley in 1962.
Spending time with family and friends was always important to him. He was a big fan of all sports, especially the Giants and the Raiders.
Don enjoyed barbequing with the “Posse” for local groups of friends and the community. He loved to travel, garden, and the family camp out reunions at Pinecrest Lake.
Don was in the grocery business all of his life. His parents owned several markets that he worked at while growing up. He found passion in the trade of butchery. He was a true farm-to-table meat cutter. He retired as Head of Sonoma Market Meat Department.
Don lived a full life, filled with many adventures. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his daughters Shelly Vaughn Payne and Baby Maria Vaughn.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cathy, his daughter Sarah (Michael) Robertson and granddaughters Jennifer and Jamie Payne and Frances and Mary Claire Robertson. Sisters Judy Miller and Jane Wallahan. Over a dozen brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Don” or otherwise known as “The Candyman”.
Don truly loved life, and was a warrior and fighter until the very end.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or FISH (Friends In Sonoma Helping).
Don’s Celebration of Life will be on what would have been his 80th birthday, April 2, 2022.
We do appreciate your love and support.
