Dolores Helen, age 95, of Sonoma, California, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Dolores (Dee) Jaehrling was born on September 14, 1928, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Veronica and Gerald Jaehrling. She grew up in South Milwaukee, and graduated from Loyola Marymount University, California, with a Master’s degree in English Literature. Dee worked as a teacher and Principal at Hanna Center for over 30 years, retiring in 1992, where she was known for her gentle but firm discipline, sense of humor, kindness and compassion.
Dee (Sister Carmel Thérèse) was a former Franciscan nun with the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was also an active member and former President of the Board of Vintage House, and volunteer for Friends In Sonoma Helping (FISH), in Sonoma, California. Dee’s love, dedication and devotion to others over the course of her life encompasses an extraordinary term of service to family and community.
Dee’s family, Janet Klecker (Sonoma, CA), Elena Athwal (Doha, Qatar), and Jehan Athwal (San Diego, CA), will be holding a service in honor of her memory on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Sonoma, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dee Jaehrling’s memory to either the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi (https://www.lakeosfs.org/content/donate), the Sonoma Valley Fire District firefighters (https://www.sonomavalleyfire.org) or the California Indian Legal Services, Inc. (https://www.calindian.org/donate/).
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
