Dale Arnold Charles

On the day of May 15, 2026, Dale Arnold Charles passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family, at his home in Sonoma.  

Dale was born to Oliver “Pop” Charles & Leona Charles on August 9, 1940 in the town of North Conway, New Hampshire. He survived the great Circus fire of 1944 in Connecticut, while moving with his family to Glen Ellen, California, where he attended Dunbar Elementary.  

He graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1959, where he met the love of his life, Myrna Rae Shone, whom he proposed to on their way to the Prom.  Dale & Myrna were married for 51 wonderful years, before her passing in 2012.  When he was ready to leave his family behind on May 15th, we all knew he was going to meet her again. 

He was a devoted Father, Grandfather & Great-Grandfather that found joy in watching and supporting his children and grandchildren as they played sports and pursued various hobbies, while growing into the adults he was so proud of.

Dale worked in the roofing industry for 45+ years, where he wasrespected for his skills, leadership and work ethics.  In 1992 he became the co-founder and co-owner of AnC Roofing in Santa Rosa, where he worked until his retirement in 2006.

Along with being an avid trap shooter, hunter and golfer, he was also proficient in the restoration of early model Fords.  He enjoyed showing his restorations and coveted collection of cars with his car buddies, at car shows throughout NorthernCalifornia.

He is survived by his son Mike (Bea) Charles, daughter Michelle (Joe) Boldt, and his grandchildren, Lucas (Jamie) Charles, Daniel (Bethany) Charles, Amanda Charles, Austin (Jacquie) Boldt, Brandon Boldt, Sydney Boldt (Hank Nickelson), and 5 great-grandchildren.  

He also leaves behind his sister, Bonnie (Chet) Beasley, nieces and nephews in Colorado and Sonoma, and all his car buddies and many longtime friends in Sonoma.  He was preceded in death by his wife Myrna, his parents Oliver & Leona Charles and brother David Charles.  

Dale will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quick wit, his love of Ford’s and for his kind and steady support of all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on July 17, 2026 from 11 – 2 at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial
