Carolyn Sue Osburn passed from this world March 26, 2024 at her home in Sonoma. She was 89 years old
Born in Raton, New Mexico, Carolyn was raised by her mother, Gertie Allan, following the untimely death of her father, Hugh, when Carolyn was 4 months old. She grew up in SW New Mexico, graduated from Hanover High School and attended New Mexico State College. In 1953, she met Vance Osburn while visiting relatives in Sonoma; they married in 1954 and settled here. She initially worked for Dr. Carroll Andrews, and was employed by the doctor’s office on West Napa St. for over 50 years.
In 1955, Carolyn and Vance moved into their home on Patten St which they shared with their two daughters, family, friends, and admirers of dogwoods and rhododendrons through their lifetimes.
Carolyn was a 66 year member of the First Congregational Church of Sonoma. She served as president of the Jr. Women’s Club, was active in her Sonoma Sorority, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and FISH, the church thrift store, and the Garden Club. She taught the next generation to sew in 4H. She co-led Bluebirds and Campfire Girls. She sang with the Church Choir, Kenwood Carolers, Sonoma Valley Chorale, and Vintage Singers. In retirement, through Vintage House she enjoyed classes, book clubs, theater excursions, and line dancing.
Left to carry her memory are her daughters Cheryl Osburn-Adams (Greg) and Nancy Muir (Alastair). She had five grandchildren Nathan Adams (Christie), Margaret Adams (Lucas), Arthur Muir, Alexander Muir, MacKenzie Muir, and great granddaughter, Elsie. Also surviving are niece Linda Osburn-Welsh, cousins Jo Ann Forse and Jerry Griffin, and Brandon Treakle, Tiffaney Treakle, Theresa Yinger, and Samantha Canales. Her husband Vance passed away in 1998.
