Betty Woods Obituary

Betty Jean Woods, 89, of Sonoma, passed away September 28, 2021, at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.  Betty was born January 8, 1932, in Oakland, California and grew up in San Francisco.

Betty met her husband Bill in San Francisco while Bill was in the Navy. They were married for 52 years until Bill’s death in 2002.  Betty and Bill moved to their Ranch in Sonoma in 1957. They raised five children there and considered it their “forever home”.

Betty worked with Bill at their store, Mission Radio & TV, on the Plaza and, later, at Hewlett Packard in Santa Rosa retiring in 1997.

She attended every sporting event, concert, play, and activity her children and grandchildren were involved in.  She thoroughly enjoyed being “there” for her family; and her loud, infectious laugh could often be heard from adjacent ball fields.

Betty loved the Sonoma Valley Chorale where she was an active member for over 40 years.  Rehearsing, performing, and being with other chorale members bought her great joy.  Music was always a part of Betty’s life: the Chorale, singing along with the radio, or hiding obscure musical references in daily conversations.  She once quipped, after trying, but failing, to standup: “one more time, with feeling”!

She also enjoyed her weekly luncheon with friends and her monthly Bunco outings.

Betty is survived by four of her children, Val of Santa Rosa, Robin (Gary) of Sonoma, Kevin (Debi) of Sequim, WA, and Keith (Karen) of Sonoma, her daughter-in-law Rosemary of Alexandria, VA, her grandchildren, Joshua, Ryan, Tyler, and Leanne, and her great grandchildren Austin and Allison. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill and son Jim.

People will remember her laugh, outgoing personality, and welcoming smile.  She will be greatly missed by many friends and her family.

Memorial donations to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Sonoma Valley Chorale are preferred.

The Family is planning a private memorial.
