Rita Marie Roumbanis (Totaro)
Rita was born in San Francisco and resided throughout her life in San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma Counties.
In 1960, Rita married William (Bill) Roumbanis and became the loving mother of three beautiful sons: Michael, Dean and Billy. She was first known to them as the lady in the purple coat. A few years later she was blessed with the birth of her loving daughter Georgette.
Rita loved life and was ever curious about many things. She was a very spiritual and caring woman. She loved to dance, gamble and was an avid reader. She was passionate about finance and politics; and was a proud lifelong Democrat. Rita dabbled in piano playing; she was a great cook, and she loved nature and animals. She played tennis and enjoyed watching baseball and football and eating wings with her long time friend Harriet.
Her ability to listen and console others was extraordinary; and her ever lasting humor that made others smile was never ending. Rita was a strong and loving woman; spirited and wise, considerate, very funny and always supportive. After retiring from Marin General Hospital, Rita enjoyed retirement and expressed her deep love for animals by volunteering at Pets Lifeline.
Rita enjoyed many lasting friendships throughout her life and was loved by many.
Daughter of Frank and Edna Totaro, Sister of Georgina, Lorraine and Florindo (Frank), Mother of Michael, Dean, Billy and Georgette,
Grandmother to Jamie, Justin and Amelia, Dog Mama to Zorba, Cat Mama to Tommy and Tony
Rita had so many experiences to share in her very full life, not the least of which as being named Queen Isabella in 1952 as part of the Italian Heritage Parade in San Francisco. And she was a beautiful queen!
We invite friends and family to share their stories and loving memories by posting them on the Tribute Wall of this site.
