It is with a heavy heart that the family of Mark John Maffioli announce the sudden passing of their beloved son, brother and companion due to heart failure. He passed surrounded by friends and family on Sunday, while enjoying one of his passions: racing go-karts.
Mark was born January 7, 1958 in San Francisco. His family spent weekends in Sonoma until 1971 when the Maffioli family moved to Sonoma permanently. He passed away in Sonoma on May 20, 2018. He is survived by his parents Jean and Ricciotti Maffioli, his brother Todd Maffioli, his fiancé Carla Piver and his stepchildren Morgan and Layton Piver.
Mark graduated from Sonoma Valley High School in 1976. Upon graduation, he started working as a mechanic for St. Laurent Chevrolet, later known as Bob Nobles Chevrolet, until 2004 when he started his own automotive business.
Mark’s sense of humor was one of his greatest assets. He was known for playing lighthearted pranks, teasing friends, calling in disguised voices and being able to crack a joke with both new and familiar faces. Mark was a man of many talents, and he took great pride in helping those that came to him with car troubles. His friends describe him as a man you didn’t need to ask for help, since he was already on his way.
His passing has been truly heartbreaking to his many friends, immediate and extended family, and to the community of Sonoma as a whole. Mark was a valued member of the Sonoma community and cared deeply about the people that called Sonoma home.
The family will be holding a small private service to honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mark’s name to the Sonoma Valley High School Alumni Association, P.O Box 32 Sonoma CA 95476.
