John “Denny” Dennis Walker, son of John H. Walker and Ruth D. Brown Lehner was born on Feb. 3, 1940 in Wichita, Kansas and died on Oct. 28, 2018 at home in Sonoma, California.
Denny grew up in Cheney, Kansas, he attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Cheney High School where he played football, basketball and participated in track. After graduating high school in 1958 he worked for farmers in Kansas and for a construction crew building the Cheney Reservoir Dam before joining the Army December 12, 1962. After his Army service he moved to Napa, CA and began working at Mare Island Naval shipyard until his retirement.
Denny met Arlene (Rebollini) Williams at a bowling alley in Napa and they were married July 8th, 1967. They lived in Sonoma where they raised four children. Denny coached his son A.J for 13 years starting with T-ball through American Legion (Arlene was in the snack bar during these years).
Denny enjoyed yearly fishing trips with A.J and his friends and attending his granddaughter’s softball tournaments.
Proceeding Denny in death are his parents, Arlene his wife of 42 years, brother Donald, brother-in-law Glen Cummins. Surviving him are his children: daughters Terri (John) Howell, Candace Walker, Stacey (Bobby) Midgley and his son A.J. Walker; four grandchildren Christopher Walker, Kennedy and Kassedy Midgley and Jaecob Walker; his brother Richard (Marty) Walker, his sister Peggy (Arlen) Schomacker and his nephews and nieces; Debbie, DeAnna, Dan, Craig and Nancy.
Graveside services will be held at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Park (90 First Street West, Sonoma, CA 95476) on November 24, 2018 at 11:00. Celebration to follow at the family home.
