Joan Anne Wilson died on June 1, 2017, she was 84.  She was surrounded by family and the wonderful Hospice team who looked after her.  Joan was the daughter of Lawrence and Josephine Wilson, granddaughter of Denis and Catherine McCarthy and is survived by many nieces and nephews from the Loren and Wilson families.

Joan was a Native of San Francisco, the second youngest child of 4, surviving all her siblings’.   Joan was a devout Roman Catholic and lived her life supported by her strong faith.  Joan volunteered for the Maryknoll Brothers from her 20’s through her 50’s, and walked to church every day rain or shine.  Joan loved to walk and it was an activity she was committed to her entire adult life.  Joan also was blessed with a photographic memory and could remember all of her family and her friend’s birthdays.  When she retired at the Valley Orchard (there were 100 residents) she remembered everyone’s birthday and sent cards annually for 20 years, a tradition she continued for family and friends up until the last year of her life.  She was truly a very special person and was loved by all who knew her, especially her dear friend Judy Mc Kearnin.

Joan loved to travel and enjoyed many family reunions in Hawaii and Mexico.  She took her annual vacations to Santa Cruz, where she would enjoy a swim in the ocean.  She loved good food, steak was a favorite followed by mud pie.  She would entertain the family after meals with her show tunes and classical pieces played on the family piano.  She was a classically trained pianist but had a remarkable ability to play by ear when asked to play a song new to her.  Stephen Foster was a favorite composer.

A private Graveside Service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, California where she will be laid to rest with her grandparents, parents and sister.
