Ingeborg Schwob February 19, 1930 - July 16, 2018
In the early morning of July 16, 2018, our dear aunt, Ingeborg Schwob, passed on leaving this earthly plane. Her long life was filled with adventure, survival, work, and devotion to family. Many know Inge from her nearly 40 years working at the Fruit Basket. Her soft voice and German accent was a fixture at the Fruit Basket stores in Sonoma Valley. Inge could be seen filling orders, stocking supplies, driving the fork lift, and unloading delivery trucks. Small in stature, but huge in determination and perseverance. There was no job too big for her to take on.
Born in Neisse, Germany in 1930, Inge was the second oldest of six children. Inge survived the war as a young woman, being separated from her family, hiding, and working for room and board on family farms. She came to this country by ship in January 1954, with brother George; both being sponsored by family, Uncle’s Rudolf and Kurt, who owned the Kempner Brothers farms in Sonoma. Working on the family egg farm and eventually the Fruit Basket, Inge remained in Sonoma throughout her adult life. Inge is survived by her sister-in-law’s, Mitzie Schwob in Sonoma and Heike Schwob in American Canyon, and her oldest brother Günter youngest sister Hildegard, both in Germany, ten nieces and nephews, and many friends throughout the area. At Inge’s request, private services will be held at Duggan’s Mission Chapel, Sonoma
