Gerald (Jerry) H. Riley, age 85, passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on October 14, 2018. He was born to Verna Massey and Ernie Riley in Santa Rosa on November 30, 1932. He lived in San Francisco until 1947 when his family moved to Sonoma.
After leaving Sonoma Valley High School he enlisted in the Air Force where he was given, in his words, the most dangerous job in the military, a cook. In March of 1952 he married the love of his life, Marian J. Sutter, who preceded him in death.
Sergeant Riley retired in 1994 from San Quentin State Prison after 25 years. Following his retirement he took his skills to the classroom where he loved volunteering in his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s classes.
Jerry leaves behind his children Regina Webb (Gene), Jerry Riley and Teresa Riley, his grandchildren Regina Panelli (Paul), Steven DiPiero (Cheryl), Alison Riley, Holly Edwards, Chris Webb, Angela Webb and Mary Riley, and his great grandchildren Riley Scanlan, Zoe Panelli, Ariana DiPiero and Dominic DiPiero.
Please join his family for a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 28th, 11:30 at Sonoma Veterans Memorial Building, 126 First St. West, Sonoma, CA 95476
Jerry loved to talk and share a humorous story with everyone, so his family encourages you to bring your own memories, photos and stories to share.
