Elaine Ruth Souza, a Petaluma native, born on November 23, 1927, to George and Katherine Matthias passed away peacefully at home in Petaluma on April 25, 2018. Loving wife of 70 years to Vernon J. Souza; Elaine worked at Kresky Manufacturing, Sunset Line and Twine, Carithers, as well as, processing chickens and candling eggs for Vern’s egg route in Marin and Vallejo. When Elaine wasn’t working she stayed busy raising three children, keeping a spotless house, three meals on the table and a fresh baked good ready for family and guests. She filled her time with gardening, raising livestock, baking, working in the hay fields and visiting friends and family. Upon retiring she and Vern spent a lot of time traveling all over the country in their vintage Chevy cars with the Redwood Empire Chevrolet Club as well as traveling with their children and grandchildren. Elaine loved hosting holidays and playing cards until the wee hours of the morning. Her amazing cooking, baking, kindness and selflessness will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her children, Jerry, Jim, Jane (Ivan) her grandchildren, Stacey (John) Melissa (Jerry), Jeff (Danielle) Josh, and Amanda (Mike) and numerous great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Carol Souza. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Hospice of Petaluma for the loving care and support they gave Elaine and her entire family.
