Dennis Guy Ciocca

If loving your wife, your children, dogs, wine and the occasional Reuben sandwich are sins, then Dennis Ciocca is in trouble. Dennis died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, following a seven-year battle against prostate cancer with his family by his side – just as he wanted. His greatest loves were his wife of 46 years, Mary, his children, his Church, his dear friends, travel and the memories of a lifetime spent in the Bay Area. His greatest dislikes were using lane change indicators, (“they’ll only speed up on you”), being barraged with individual latte orders upon an offer to pick up coffee (“the latte store is closed”), the wireless printer/scanner, and traffic on Highway 37.

His professional career in Public Finance began in 1965 with the San Francisco firm of Stone and Youngberg and led him down a path of nearly 50 years serving clients including the States of California, Nevada and Hawaii and the Cities of San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon, as Vice President of E.F. Hutton, Partner at Sutter Securities of San Francisco, and finishing his career with Stern Brothers & Co. in their Sonoma office. As one former associate put it, “Dennis taught me much of what I know about the business and everything I know about being a gentleman.”

To his family, Dennis Ciocca was the rock, the foundation and true North. He was a provider, a patriarch, a confidant and a friend. He was our conscience and our beacon. He was the best part of us. We wonder how in the world we will get along without him.

Dennis leaves behind his adoring wife, Mary; daughter Catherine; her partner, Terry Ohm; sons Andrew and Patrick; daughter-in-law Jessica; and an odd-looking little dog named Tyler. He will be missed and always loved by all those who knew him.

Services will be held on June 28, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Sonoma, California (601 W. Aqua Caliente Rd. Sonoma, CA 95476). In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in Dennis’ name be made to the UCSF Foundation, with the notation “Prostate and Genitourinary Malignancies Research Fund in memory of Dennis Ciocca” on the notation line.
