Dawyn Moore Obituary

Dawyn Louise Moore, age 70, took her last peaceful breath surrounded by family on April 27, 2018 at St. Joseph Health in Petaluma, after a recent diagnosis of cancer.  Dawyn was born on October 18, 1947 in Oregon and shortly thereafter moved to the Bay Area in California where she was raised by her mother, Helen Sebiskis.

Dawyn always dressed well and looked her best; she had a great sense of style.  She loved to dance, teaching her daughters the twist and the stroll, and even keeping up on any new dances that they were doing as they grew up. She laughed a lot and had a great sense of humor, even finding humor in the not so humorous situations.  Dawyn had a passion for cooking.  She loved hosting and entertaining family and friends for holidays and special events, Christmas being one of her favorites.  Later in life, she wowed the clientele at the Town Square with her tasty bites.  Some of her favorite recipes came from Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines; a chocolate ribbon cake was one of her prouder feats. She enjoyed reading and could often be found standing in the corner of the kitchen or lying in the sun with a book in her hand.  Dawyn was also a fierce homemaker, always making sure her family was taken care of with homemade cookies (her girls would then trade for store bought) and sandwiches without lettuce and other stuff to make it soggy.  She would clean and reorganize constantly in an effort to streamline how the house functioned, even changing around furniture to improve flow and how it looked. This was a skill she passed down to her girls, sure to drive their families crazy too.  Just when someone would get used to where or how things were, it would change. She loved animals: dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats, frogs, and fish.  She was entertained by all of them and truly engaged in raising them.

Dawyn is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Moore, of 47 years.  They met in high school and dated occasionally.   Her favorite story was of Stephen standing her up for senior prom.  When Stephen came out of the Air Force, he looked her up and the rest is history.  They were married in San Francisco on January 9, 1971, and started their family right away with their first daughter, Senia (Larry) Orr.  They bought a home in Daly City and then welcomed their second daughter, Heather (John Terry) Moore, in 1975. Having often visited Stephen’s sister (Stephanie Tomasello) and her family in Sonoma, Stephen and Dawyn bought their dream home on Lovall Valley Road, often referred to as “the Hill”, in the fall of 1975. It was more than just the home itself, Dawyn would refer to it as “her Dirt”.  It was also where they had their third daughter, Sarah (Dan) Brady.  In addition to raising her three daughters on “the Hill”, Dawyn later loved spending time with her grandchildren, Stephen (21), Alissa (17), Monroe (12), Kayla (10), and Tyler (7) there. They spent many hours exploring the yard, swimming, feeding the fish, playing with lizards, caterpillars, and frogs, and even witnessing red-tailed hawks hatching and learning to fly.

Dawyn is also survived by her brother, Scott Keilholtz, and his wife, Phyllis, of Sacramento, his son Eric (Melanie) and their daughter of Vallejo, CA.

Dawyn will be missed by all her family, relatives, and friends.

A celebration of life is being planned and will be held at a later date.
