Bessie Vina Smith

Bess Smith passed away seven days before her 93rd birthday. Her loving husband of 57 years, Robert Smith, and other loved ones were by her side. Bess was born in Hanover, NY, to Albert and Bessie Tebo. She was the youngest of 11 children.

She was a dedicated, involved, and loving mother of 6: Gloria (Robert), Gale (Beth), Garry (deceased), Kathy (Ron), step-children Shawn (Greg) and Gary (Judy). She continued to share her love with 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great- great-grandchildren. She had a beautiful way of sharing her love so that everyone felt like “the favorite.”

After moving to California, Robert and Bess resided in Pleasant Hill and retired to Sonoma 25 years ago. Bess volunteered her time as a candy striper at Sonoma Valley Hospital. She developed long-lasting friendships with a few special women. Bess was an excellent cook and continued to provide delicious and healthy home-cooked meals until the end. She was always thinking of others and frequently sent cards with loving messages. Her sense of humor increased with age, such that one would cry laughing. Everyone looked forward to her annual Christmas cookie-making day. The house would be full of family, laughter, and hundreds of cookies.

She enjoyed family spa weekends in Calistoga, trips to the Oregon coast and family gatherings. She spent peaceful moments tending her flower garden and watching the hummingbirds.
