A 55-year resident of Sonoma, Alice Rhodes passed away peacefully at the
age of 88 on July 14, 2018, survived by her daughter Sidney, her son
Matthew and his wife Vivian, and her children's father Richard Rhodes.
Alice found many friendships in artist's circles including the Sonoma
Collage Collective. As she became known for and shared her extensive
expertise and enjoyment in a plethora of tools, materials, methods, and
media combined over 8 decades of practicing, studying, and enjoying art,
Alice was loved and appreciated for her humor, for her kindness and
consideration, as well as for her style, originality, and outright joy
in creating.
Along with 85 years of artwork spanning a breadth of media and methods,
Alice created nine Journey books, a collection of collages and haikus in
books as unique as their authors. The nine-month Journey book project
begun by Barbara Jacobsen and carried forward by Judi Danner and Thena
Trygstad exhibited this year's creations at Reader's Books in Sonoma
on Sunday, September 23, and where they honored Alice Rhodes's
creative spirit and contributions.
