William Joseph Paganini, native of San Francisco and longtime resident of Sonoma died on September 21, 2017, he was 87. Born in San Francisco on June 20, 1930 to William and Margaret Paganini he and his family spent their summers in Sonoma.
Bill, as he was known to friends and family, was a Veteran of the Korean War. He was in the US Marine Corps and fought in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir earning a Purple Heart. He was one of “The Choisin Few “who survived the brutal 17 day battle in the freezing snow.
In 2015 the Sonoma Index Tribune did an article on him celebrating the fact that he, after 65 years, finally received his Purple Heart and other medals earned during his time in the service. Although he earned the medals long ago he had only just applied to the Marines to actually receive them. He wanted his son to have something to remember him by.
He retired from Sears Roebuck in 1980 and moved to Sonoma where he had built a home. Until recently he was a regular at Parkpoint, working out and making friends, new and old.
He is survived by his son Kevin Paganini and by his brother Robert (Rosalie) Paganini. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
He will be remembered for his infectious smile, thoughtfulness and his ever friendly personality.
At his request there will be no formal service’s.
