Passed away peacefully on May 27, 2017 in Sonoma, California. She was born August 4, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Helen and Carlton Paul.

An only child, Marcella was raised in the small community of Avon Lake, Ohio, on the southwestern shore of Lake Erie. Marcella graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1940 and attended Kent State. She married an Avon Lake classmate, Arthur Hardy Aslaksen in 1942 just before he enlisted in the United States Army.

Together they welcomed two sons, Duane and Daryl. The family enjoyed boating and camping in the Great Lakes area. When her children became of school age, Marcie worked as secretary at Eastview Elementary School in Avon Lake for over 20 years. In addition, Marcella was an active member of Avon Lake Garden Club, Eastern Star, Gamma Rho sorority, and other service organizations. She was admired for her artistic skill and loved for her outgoing personality.

Upon retirement, Marcella and Art traveled to all 50 states and cruised to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, and Mississippi River. They moved to Sonoma in 2008 where she continued her quilting projects, making handbags, blankets, and art pieces.

Marcella was predeceased by her husband Art and son Daryl. She is survived by her son Duane (Loretta) and grandson Nathaniel of Sonoma, granddaughter Angela and four great-grandchildren of Valley City, Ohio.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sonoma Oak Tree Place, Sonoma Hills, and Hospice by the Bay for their kindness and caring for Marcella.

At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939.
