G. Martin Lively III passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on January 22, 2017, at his home in Rockville, Maryland. He was 76. A"MartyA" was predeceased by his father, George M. Lively, and his mother, Margaret Lively. He is survived by his stepmother, Isabella A"MizA" Lively; his wife, Jean (Ivins) Lively; his three sons: George M. Lively IV, Geoffrey Lively and Jonathan Lively; his daughter, Coryne L. Riddle; and his grandchildren: Timothy Lively, Marlene Rose Lively and Austin Riddle.
Martin, a third-generation San Franciscan, born on December 23, 1940, was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and Wheeling College in West Virginia, where he met Jean Ivins. They were married in McLean, Virginia, on August 22, 1964. She was the A"love of his lifeA" for his entire life.
They moved back to San Francisco where Marty became a police officer in Daly City while earning his law degree at USF. After passing the California State Bar, he and Jean moved to Sonoma where he became a partner with James Kemp: Law Offices of Kemp and Lively. When JeanA's parents died, Jean inherited the family home and they returned to McLean, Virginia. Martin then became a U.S. Government Attorney with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., traveling to such places as Egypt, Korea and Costa Rica.
Martin and Jean retired to San Jose, Costa Rica, in 1997. When both of them developed serious medical problems in 2014, they returned to the U.S., moving into a continuing care retirement community, A"The Village at RockvilleA" in Maryland.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass and Celebration of his life on Friday, February 17, 2017, at St LeoA's Catholic Church, 601 West Agua Caliente Road, Sonoma, CA, at 11:00 a.m.
