Frank Louis Mazzone

June 18, 1922 ~ April 9, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Frank Louis Mazzone passed away peacefully in Sonoma County on April 9, 2017, at the age of 94. Frank was born in Jamestown, New York, and was the tenth and last child of immigrant parents Gaetano and Lucia Tedesco Mazzone. Frank was raised and educated in Jamestown. In 1942 he enlisted in the Navy, where he was trained as an aviation machinist and soon placed in the Navy officer training program at Yale University.

After World War II, he finished his education with a BS in Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic University in Worcester, Mass. His work career included employment at Union Carbide for 25 years, and he was founder and CEO of Acres American, Inc., an engineering firm in Buffalo, New York. In his later years, he was employed at Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco.

Frank retired to Sonoma, Calif., with his first wife, Nettie, in 1988. During his retirement, he diligently worked with Joseph Tegda (now deceased) in a joint venture establishing Arizona Independent Power Inc., with a goal of construction of a hydroelectric pump storage facility in the Southwest.

During retirement, he also was an active member of the Newcomers Club, St. Francis Solano Church, and the Italian Catholic Federation. Frank served on the Sonoma Planning Commission in the early 1990s and as an advisor to the Sonoma County Hospital Board for the earthquake retrofit in the early 2000s. He also managed the restoration of St. Francis Solano church to its original mission intent while retrofitting both the school and church to earthquake standards.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, and his first wife, Antoinette (Nettie). He is survived by second wife Mary Logasa Mazzone of Sonoma, and his loving family: Paula Ryan (husband Hollis) of Merchantville, N.J.; Lucille Madden of Sonoma; Dr. Thomas Mazzone (wife Diana) of St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada; Theresa Roberts of Atlanta, Ga.; Ann Marie Foley Herrimann (husband Eric) of Santa Rosa; and ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
