Cary Ammann, Sr. Obituary

Cary F. Ammann, Sr., 82, of Sonoma, passed away the morning of January 25, 2018, in his sleep.

Cary was born on August 17, 1935, in Vallejo, California, where his father Herbert worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He grew up in Sonoma and graduated from Sonoma Valley High School.

Cary married the love of his life, Gayle Ammann, during a weekend run to Reno, Nevada, on January 7, 1963.

He was a Veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean conflict, where he received his Combat Infantry Badge. He worked at the Golden Gate Bridge District and retired after 35 years. He enjoyed carpentry and was proud to have built the home he and his family lived in for 53 years.

Cary was President of the Valley of the Moon Little League for 8 years, and with help of the League parents and the community, they revamped Paul's Field into an enjoyable baseball field.

He was a proud grandfather to his granddaughter, Mackenzie, and would tell everyone he saw about her, even if he didn't know them.

Cary is survived by his children, Cary Ammann II (Kim) and Luke Ammann II (Marisa); granddaughter Mackenzie Ammann; brothers Lew Ammann, Paul Ammann (Beverly); niece Sherri Ammann; nephews Tim Ammann (Denise), Paul Ammann Jr., Herbert Ammann; great-nieces Sarah Ammann, Lisa Ammann; and great-nephews Tony Ammann, Nicholas and Ryan Brignoli. Cary was preceded in death by parents Herbert & Frances Ammann, brother Herbert Ammann Sr., and niece Valerie Ammann.
